   M. Verner je archeolog, egyptolog a epigraf s dlouholetou archeologickou praxí v Egyptě. Zabývá se dějinami, historií a archeologií Egypta v období 3. tis. př. Kr. Specializuje se především na archeologii doby stavitelů pyramid. Na archeologických pracích v EAR se podílí již od r. 1964. Od roku 1975 je vedoucím českých archeologických výzkumů v Abúsíru. Prof. Verner je členem komise UNESCO pro památky starého Egypta, Deutsches Achäologisches Institut a  členem řídícího výboru International Association of Egyptologists.
