Director
of the Czech Institute of Egyptology. Since 1976
an active member of the Czech Institute of Egyptology
taking part in its archaeological and epigraphic expeditions to Abusir,
since 1992 acting as a deputy field director. Dr. Vachala specialises above all
in Egyptian philology, literature and history.
His particular interest is the translation and publication of the ancient
Egyptian literary works. He lectures in Egyptology at the Faculty of Arts at
Charles University, and contributes extensively to scientific and popular
publications and journals. Dr. Vachala is a member of several international
organisations (Egyptology, Nubian Studies, Geography).
