The excavations carried out by the Polish-Egyptian mission at Saqqara in the years 2000-2003 resulted in the discovery of a section of the ‘dry moat’ west of the step pyramid’s enclosure. Both cliff ledges constituting the east and west façades of the ‘moat’, as well as adjoining areas, contain rock-hewn funerary structures dating from late Old Kingdom. Their discovery, architecture and decoration will be presented in this paper.
